Coffee is the absolute thing to do in the morning as a way to start a day. There are many people who continue to have coffee throughout the day. So, why are there benefits of coffee in the morning?
Research tells us that people who drink coffee daily, have a 23 to 50 percent decrease in risk of having type II diabetes. Coffee is one of the largest sources of Antioxidants.
Some research studies believe that consuming coffee is also beneficial to the liver, by reducing the risk of liver cirrhosis. Daily consumption of coffee may also reduce the risk of stroke, heart disease, and colorectal cancer. People who drink coffee may reduce the risk of having Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
A further beneficial effect of coffee is on the overall mental health. Women who drink coffee on a daily basis may lower the chance of depression and suicide.
Studies data suggest that coffee and caffeine intake may have significant benefits to older adults’ cognitive functioning if they drink 2-3 cups per day.
There are current studies on coffee has been linked to an increased lifespan; it lowers the risk of premature death. You should note that these studies are observational and there is no concrete evidence to back up these claims at this time.
How much coffee is healthy to drink?
Currently, there are many consumable products on the market that contain caffeine. Caffeine consumption is considered to be safe if you regulate your intake.
When intake gets over 400 mg, it is considered to be approaching a high dose which is considered an unsafe amount to ingest.
According to the US dietary guideline, it is advised that adults should consume less than 400mg of caffeine in a day for all your caffeinated beverages. This is equivalent to about 3 to 5 small cups of brewed coffee in a day if you do not drink other caffeinated beverages.
The effect of stimulants and caffeine on adolescents and children is not clear at this time. This is why it is advised that they should stay away from products that contain high caffeine content.
Why People Love Coffee
Coffee calms nerves. Although it sounds cliché, it is true. People who drink coffee feel more relaxed because of its stimulant qualities. It’s also an excellent winter beverage.
Sit down with a cup of hot coffee for warmth. You’ll feel heat rush through your body as you sip your coffee, warming your entire body.
Have you ever wondered why people drink coffee with donuts? This is not a strange tradition. Coffee is bitter, and you can enjoy it with sweet foods. Coffee’s acidity provides an excellent balance to sweets found in many breakfast dishes. It is also a good after-meal drink. Relax with your dinner partners and have a chat while you wait for your meal to settle.
Coffee is a great social drink. A cup of coffee is a great way to meet people for social gatherings, business meetings, or just enjoying a cup with a friend.
There are many reasons people love to drink coffee, not just the caffeine content.
Millions of people start their day with a hot cup of coffee. But there are many reasons they do it. Caffeine is the main ingredient in coffee. It plays two roles in coffee consumption. The caffeine in coffee stimulates the blood and gives people energy. Third-shift workers and early morning workers rely on coffee to get them through the day.
This is the number one reason people drink coffee. Another reason people keep drinking coffee is that it’s addictive. Coffee contains a few ingredients with the most important being caffeine that makes it addictive. Coffee addiction is a significant reason people consume coffee every day.
People who are addicted to large amounts of caffeine could experience headaches and irritability. One way to cut down on caffeine is to decrease the coffee consumption or switch to decaffeinated coffee which contains 0% to 3% caffeine max.
People who drink coffee say that they do so to relax. This may sound like an oxymoron, considering the fact that coffee is a stimulant. However, regular coffee, or decaffeinated coffee, can help relax the nerves, calm them down, and gives a sense of well-being.
Researchers believe that stimulating the senses can have a calming effect, which helps in creativity and mental focus. This, in turn, helps to calm people, unless you overdo it, then you’ll be overstimulated which causes nervousness.
Because of the wide variety of coffee roasts, flavors, and blends on the market, every coffee drinker’s taste buds are different. Some prefer a dark roast, while others prefer a smoother and mellower coffee flavor.
No matter what flavor coffee is chosen, coffee lovers are enticed by a cup of coffee. Statistically, coffee is consumed second to water, and coffee drinkers are increasing daily.
Types of Coffee Beans
Arabica coffee bean is the primary type of coffee, while Coffee Robusta is the second most popular. A mixture of both types called a blend is also popular. Each coffee bean tastes different depending on how and where they were grown. What’s the difference between Coffee Robusta and Coffee Arabica? What makes a difference in these types of coffee beans?
Some people are not specific on the coffee beans used in their morning coffee as long as it’s fresh and flavorful. The Robusta and Arabica beans are more popular and in high demand than any other type of coffee beans, whether they’re used in their raw form or as part of ground blends.
Over 70 percent of all coffee drinks are made from the Arabica Coffee bean, grown around the globe. The Arabica coffee bean is more flavorful than the Robusta bean and contains less caffeine. Different regions that grow Arabic beans produce different tastes.
You can find these beans all over the globe, but they are most commonly grown and planted in Asia. Robusta beans are bitter and more acidic and has a stronger flavor, but they can be delicious. The best espressos use Robusta bean because of the great crema it makes on top of the coffee.
What Are the Best Times to Drink Coffee?
Our body’s alertness, and focus are produced by the Cortisol hormone. It also regulates your metabolism, immune system response, and blood pressure.
Cortisol follows the circadian rhythm specific to your sleep-wake cycle every 24 hours, with high levels that peak 30–45 minutes after waking up and slowly decline throughout the rest of the day.
That said, it has been suggested that the best time to drink coffee is mid to late-morning, mid-afternoon, and early evening when your cortisol level is lower.
Here are some things to consider when you think about coffee consumption during the day and how to adjust your cup over time.
- It’s a good idea to drink it in the morning 30-45 minutes after wake-up, or between 9:30 am-11 am
It’s no surprise that morning coffee is common at the office, regardless of where you work.
- Do you need an afternoon coffee boost? A lower level of cortisol is between 1 pm – 2-30 pm
You can use coffee as an afternoon pick-me-up. It is much healthier than energy drinks, sodas, or other high-calorie beverages. If you need an afternoon boost, coffee is a good choice.
- Evening use is a personal choice. The lower level of Cortisol is 5 pm-6:30 pm
Evening coffee use should be consumed by persons that are unaffected by caffeine as a stimulant, and will not interfere with their sleeping patterns. It’s a personal decision based on your coffee tolerance. Caffeine affects a person for 6-7 hours and others a little longer. That’s why some people stop drinking coffee before 5 pm.
Benefits of Coffee Explained
- A stroke may be less likely for coffee users.
Women who drink at least one cup per day of coffee are less likely to have a stroke, which is the fourth leading cause of death.
- Coffee may help to process glucose (or sugars) more efficiently.
This is the theory behind studies showing that coffee drinkers may be less likely to get type-2 diabetes. People who drink coffee have a 23 to 50 percent decrease in the risk of having type-2 diabetes. With the daily coffee consumption, there is a linked 7 percent monthly decrease in the risk.
- You might live longer.
Recent research has shown that coffee drinkers are less likely to die from the most common causes of death, including stroke, coronary heart disease, and diabetes, which results in a longer lifespan.
- Your DNA may be more stable.
Dark roast coffee reduces DNA changes, which can naturally occur and lead to cancer or other tumors if not repaired and sustained by your cells.
- Heart failure is less likely in people that drink coffee and have lower risk factors.
It’s been a fact for a while, and I’m certain most people know that coffee is the biggest source of Antioxidants. Antioxidants are molecules that protect cell damage and cell death in the human body.
The simplest way I can explain it, is that our body cells go through a process called oxidation which creates free radicals which ultimately causes’ our cells to age prematurely and other cells to be damaged over time. Antioxidants protect us from this cell damage.
Drinking black coffee can only help you lose some weight or prevent you from adding more weight. If you want a significant decrease in your weight, however, you take the accurate amount of black coffee without sugar or unhealthy creamers, alongside a balanced diet and with good exercise, you can lose and sustain a lower weight.
Drinking Coffee Sensibly
- FDA data reports that coffee and caffeine intake may be of significant benefit to older adults’ cognitive functioning if they drink 3-5 cups per day. In total no more than 400mg of caffeine ingestion.
Are there any side effects from coffee?
Some studies believe that consuming coffee on a daily basis is safe if moderation is used, and in rare cases, if you are sensitive or allergic to coffee it may cause:
-insomnia
-nervousness
-restlessness
-stomach upset
-nausea
– increased heartbeat and breathing rate
It seems that coffee consumption varies for everyone. According to another study, some people can drink more coffee without problems. Others feel jittery if they consume coffee. It’s an individual tolerance level to caffeine and too much of it’s not recommended.
How you prepare your coffee is also essential. You may not reap the most incredible health benefits if you consume heavy cream and lots of sugar in your coffee every day. Instead, use a non-dairy creamer or natural sweeteners.
Marilyn C. Cornelis is an assistant professor in preventive medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She also stated that boiled coffees such as Turkish or French press coffee may raise LDL (or the bad cholesterol in some persons.
Although the increase in cholesterol isn’t enough to cause concern for most people, it is still worth considering it if you are concerned about your cholesterol level.
The coffee pods, which are gaining popularity, seem to offer regular coffee beans or ground with the same health benefits.
The Takeaway
In order for coffee to be considered beneficial and healthy, it must either be black coffee, or coffee with healthy creamers only. Coffee with sugar, and creamers that contain sugar and other chemicals is not considered healthy.
Coffee is only one aspect of your lifestyle and your health. You can make a more significant impact on your health by eating healthy foods, exercising, and keeping a healthy weight.
Coffee alone should not be considered a substitute for these key health factors. Coffee is a healthy beverage in moderation, consumed as black coffee, or complement with healthy or organic creamers.
