Looking for a quick and consistent way to brew your favorite coffee beans? Then, you might be interested in reading my review of Espro BLOOM Pour-Over Coffee Brewer.

For starters, the easiest manual way to brew is the pour-over coffee process. So to make this, you need a pour-over brewer, filter, coffee, and water. While you can get your filter, coffee, and water easily, you might have trouble deciding on which manual coffee brewer to choose for your coffee.

In this article, we picked our favorite and best in our opinion pour-over coffee brewer and we’ll go over everything you need to know about this efficient brewer.

The Espro Bloom Pour-Over Coffee Brewer

Generally, the process of making a cup of pour-over is fussy and stressful. The average time it takes for most pour-over coffee brewers is usually over five minutes.

So Espro, a coffee design company, decided to resolve this issue and designed a new manual single-serve coffee brewer named Espro BLOOM. The BLOOM coffee brewer was created to improve the traditional pour-over method and make the pour-over experience faster and easier while maintaining or improving the brew quality.

However, BLOOM’s shape is non-traditional; that is, it was designed with a modern and functional shape.

In a nutshell, the BLOOM Pour-Over Coffee Brewer is a narrow-shaped, flatbed stainless steel brewer made by Espro. Now that we have seen a brief summary of the BLOOM coffee brewer, let’s look at its features.

Features of BLOOM Pour-Over Coffee Brewer

Each coffee brewer has features that makes it distinct from another brewer. Although BLOOM shares many features with these coffee brewers, it is amazing to see how it combines the distinct features into one efficient brewer.

In this section, we are going to go in-depth exploring the features of the BLOOM Pour-Over Coffee Brewer.

Before we start considering the features, keep in mind that the strength of your coffee depends on several factors, such as the size of your brewer, the type of filter you’re using, and how fine the coffee beans are. With this in mind:

Feature 1: Steep Brewer Shape

The shape of the brewer helps to create a smaller brew area and a large channel in which water flows.

This efficient design helps the brewing process to increase the extraction because the water has a wider amount of flowing surface.

It also, leads to a faster brew time because the height of leads to increased pressure and fast drainage of the coffee.

Regarding the brew time, Espro promised two minutes of brewing time and keeping a consistent rich flavor.

Feature 2: A Flatbed Design

espro-1500-micro-filterThis is the main innovation by Espro regarding the BLOOM coffee brewer.

The flatbed is located at the base of the brewer and this is where the coffee comes out. The BLOOM is larger than average and the flatbed consists of 1500 precision micro holes.

This helps the coffee to brew faster than other flatbed brewers (e.g. Kalita Wave which consists of only three holes).

And due to its shape, the brewed coffee will be extracted evenly, leading to a maximum consistency result.

Feature 3: Espro Bloom has a Dual-Mode Filter system

This feature is really amazing. The Espro BLOOM coffee brewer has a dual-process filter system.

Most people prefer to use filter paper when brewing because they want better-filtered coffee in their cups without any coffee grind residue.

The coffee in this scenario can be finely ground because the paper filter will stop any grind from flowing through to your cup.

But one thing about the BLOOM brewing is that you have  the option for a paperless brew if you prefer, giving you a richer and more flavorful cup of coffee, but the coffee grind needs to be coarser in this scenario.

There are different results from using a French Press, there was no ground coffee flowing through the metal filter to the brew because the coffee is coarse.

Similar results between the two processes, but the Espro Bloom, will get your coffee in under 2 minutes vs. the French Press which has a longer brewing process.

When using the Espro Bloom brewer without the filter, you have to be careful with your grind. If the coffee is extra fine, it might clog your holes.

And if your coffee is too coarse, the water runs faster through the coffee than you desire and you will not get your desired flavors. There has to be a balance.

The Espro brewer has markings so that you can measure accurately where to fill your dry grounds.

Feature 4: Silicone Sleeve at the Top

This feature helps the brewer retain its heat. It also gives a safe place to pick up your brewer without accidentally getting burned.

Feature 5: Stainless Steel Body

This Bloom coffee brewer is made of stainless steel and has a rubber grip. So you don’t have to worry about throwing the brewer into your backpack or falling it down. The BLOOM is solid and its body, made of stainless steel, got it covered.

How to Use the BLOOM Coffee Brewer

Did you notice the time for the brew? Likely, you will agree with me that the time for the brew was less than two minutes. Did you notice the taste? No doubt it tasted much like a pour-over made with a traditional cone. Good taste and lots of flavor.

Did you know that you can also use the BLOOM coffee brewer to make iced coffee? Bet you didn’t. The BLOOM Coffee Brewer serves as a solution to make a perfect cup of iced coffee. This pour-over brewer allows you to brew the coffee hot and then, drain it over ice, preserving the delicate and fresh flavor.

Espro BLOOM Makes Iced Coffee!

Part of the water used for brewing is subbed for ice, and the coffee is brewed directly onto that ice. Measure ice cubes, or crushed ice for one or two cups and place directly in the cup or carafe I which you’ll pour the brew

    1. Use the right grind. For this pour-over coffee, use a fine grind as you would for drip coffee (as opposed to the coarser grind we call for in cold brew coffee).
    2. Boil and cool the hot water. Bring the water for brewing to a boil — an electric or manual kettle is ideal for this — and then cool the water slightly before pouring it over.
    3. Pour a small amount of water over your coffee grounds in circles to make sure the coffee is saturated. Then, wait 45 to 60 seconds for the coffee to bloom. Waiting for the coffee to bloom will get the most flavorful extraction from the coffee grind.
    4.  After the bloom, slowly pour water (depending on your measured coffee beans) in slow circles to saturate again. Then, wait for it to drain.
    5. Let it Drain completely. The coffee should drain for 15 to 30 seconds. You can now dispose of your used coffee ground, clean up your brewer and enjoy your iced coffee.
    6. Once the coffee is brewed, there may still be bits of ice floating in the finished brew, you can strain these out if you want or simply pour the now-chilled coffee over ice.

You should drink this iced coffee right away before it loses its flavor, so enjoy that great tasting iced coffee (and adding your new favorite coffee creamer) rather than storing it in the fridge.

  2. Thank you for your review on Espro BLOOM Pour-Over Coffee Brewer. I love all ways of brewing coffee. When I have no time, I use french press but when I do have time I love pour dripping! I love the fact that the material is stainless steel. I have the ceramic at the moment and I just keep chipping it. This Espro BLOOM Pour-Over Coffee Brewer looks very similr to the Vietnamese drip. So far so good. I am going to give it a try.

    • Nuttanee, I appreciate your comments. The Espro is very popular currently, because it’s inexpensive and you can use paper filter, or just the micro holes filter for a more flavorful coffee.
